New home sales in South Carolina, nationwide continue to increase

After the housing market crashed residents in South Carolina and everywhere else across the country began to wonder about their homeownership future. Many homeowners who dreamed of building a new house were stuck in one that was too small for their growing families and worth less than they owed on the mortgage. New residential development almost came to a standstill in many areas, but a new Bloomberg report shows that there may be hope.

South Carolina foreclosure rate one of highest in country

For the first time since records of foreclosure started being kept, South Carolina ranks in the top 10 states with the most foreclosures. While home foreclosure rates in South Carolina continued to climb, the national foreclosure trend shows signs of slowing. November showed a 10 percent increase in foreclosures and auctions of foreclosed properties reached a nine-month high in South Carolina.

South Carolina loan-modification program faces new difficulty

A program designed to help South Carolina homeowners with loan modifications to avoid foreclosure has encountered difficulty in reaching as many people as possible. Although South Carolina has nearly $300 million available, the state Finance and Development Authority says some lenders are declining to accept the money for loan modifications. This week the agency, which oversees the state's HELP program, said TD Bank is one the lenders refusing the money. Also included are Beal Bank and Green Tree.
