Battle lines emerging over potential sale of coastal property

Those looking to develop either residential or commercial real estate along the Atlantic coastline here in South Carolina may be in for something of a surprise. That's because there is relatively little undeveloped land for sale in some coastal areas, while in other coastal areas the undeveloped land for sale can prove to be quite expensive.

College of Charleston encourages students to study real estate

Real estate is an important industry in Charleston and other major cities in South Carolina. As the economy bounces back and cities look for more ways to attract new residents, commercial real estate is especially important. To ensure that Charleston stays on the cutting edge, the College of Charleston is giving students a special incentive to study commercial real estate.

Did the improving real estate market cause a housing shortage?

In previous posts, we've discussed how the housing market here in the state of South Carolina is finally starting to show signs of improvement five years after the recession. Specifically, we've examined how the number of residents with underwater mortgages (i.e., situations where people owe more on their mortgages than their homes are actually worth) has declined, home prices have risen and commercial property development is on the upswing.

Report sheds some light on underwater mortgages in South Carolina

The real estate tracking firm RealtyTrac recently released a report examining the number of homeowners here in the U.S. who are underwater on their mortgages, meaning they owe more on their mortgages than their homes are actually worth. While the numbers are somewhat concerning at first glance, the report indicates that they nevertheless appear be moving in the right direction.
