Mega-developments to arrive in Charleston

If you're living in South Carolina in the Charleston metro area, prepare for some new developments in your area. According to the news, town homes could be built to house around 200,000 people in 11 different locations, a huge influx for the area.

That amount of housing is enough to house the current population of Mount Pleasant and North Charleston, which are among the largest cities in the state. What's provoking these super-sized residential developments? The agencies that had the developments approved want to see long-term payback by moving people into the area.

Master-planned communities are a good idea, one developer has said. This may be because it's easier to plan out new roads and utilities ahead of time, before the influx of new residents arrive. Schools can also be placed in the middle of a residential area to serve new residents. Cities often prefer them over smaller residential developments as long as the planning goes smoothly.

Some in Charleston may be concerned that the area is becoming too crowded; the new developments could bring around 78,000 new homes into the community. The good thing is, though, that the communities house many in one area, so they're better than trying to map roads and utilities around smaller residential developments.

Other benefits of a mega development like this include the fact that schools can be built on site, and schools draw in families and those looking to invest in residential properties near those locations. If you're looking to invest in the future, your attorney may help you look into building around these areas. Whether you're looking to develop homes nearby or want to work your way into commercial real estate, mega development may be the way forward.
