New bill could create affordable housing in South Carolina

If you want to purchase a home as a first-time home buyer, you may know that there are some federal tax credits and other ways to make buying your home easier. Recently, the South Carolina senate decided to propose a bill that could make homes more affordable to lower-to-middle-income people in the state. According to the South Carolina Community Loan Fund chief executive, there are around 80,000 people who need affordable housing in the state.

Growing value of homes a positive sign in South Carolina

Whenever there are more home sales taking place, it's good news for a state. When there is less inventory, home prices rise. That means that homeowners can get more for their homes, boosting their value and worth. When home prices go up and the number of homes available drops, it's a perfect storm for sellers who want to get as much profit from selling their homes as possible.

You need to know this information about reverse mortgages

You've probably seen ads on television discussing how a reverse mortgage could help you live in your home without having to pay a mortgage payment. By selling your home to the bank in advance, you're able to stay in your home and receive payments based on the home's equity. Many of these reverse mortgages are insured by the government.

The 4 factors that affect real estate decisions

When you want to buy or sell real estate, you have to understand the market. There are four factors that drive the real estate market. The first factor is demographics. This takes into account things such as age, gender, income and population growth in an area. Demographics affect real estate by determining how much real estate can be priced for and which kinds of properties are in demand. For example, an area with many students may be best off with cheaper apartments, while a high-income area might have expensive, single-family homes.

Contracts for deed and the dangers of alternative mortgages

If you're living in a situation where you don't have a lot of spare money, one thing you may be considering is purchasing a home. How can that make sense when you're already pushing your limits in a rental? Simply put, owning a home means you're putting money into paying off "good debt," and that you may be able to get that money back out of your home if you decide to sell it.

Titles: Clear titles and what it means to have one that isn't

When you're asked for a title in real estate, it's referring to who has the legal right and ownership of a property. You probably already have heard about titles for cars; they're released once the vehicle is paid off. The same is true for real estate.
